Description

Galvanized Cattle Panels in Classic Farm Silver

Silver is the cattle panel most people picture: bright galvanized wire stretched along a pasture, around a garden or across a barnyard. These panels keep that look and upgrade the build. Each one is welded from 6-gauge steel in an even grid, hot-dipped and heavy galvanized, and sized to fit between fence posts, so you get a fence that looks at home on any farm or homestead without the sagging and patchwork of bare panels wired to T-posts.

A Galvanized Finish That Weathers to Soft Gray

There's no paint or dip-coating on silver panels. The thick zinc layer from hot-dip galvanizing is the finish, so there's nothing to chip, peel or touch up. Over the first few months outdoors the bright zinc dulls to a soft gray patina, the same weathered look as a long-standing farm fence, and that patina keeps protecting the steel underneath.

Cattle Panel Garden Fences, Pens and Homestead Runs

  • Garden and orchard fences: keep rabbits, chickens and dogs out of beds and young trees, and grow peas, beans and squash up the grid
  • Goat, sheep and pig pens: rigid welded panels hold up when animals lean and rub
  • Chicken runs and rabbit yards: choose 2" x 2" or 1" x 1" mesh so small animals stay in and predators have a harder time reaching through
  • Barnyard and property lines: a clean galvanized boundary that suits farmhouses, cabins and acreages

Cattle Panels Ready to Hang, or Bare for Your Own Build

Order the panels framed in pressure-treated lumber or Western Red Cedar and they arrive ready to fasten between posts, with no cutting or framing on site. Bright silver wire against warm cedar is a favorite pairing for farmhouse and cabin properties. If you'd rather build your own frames, fix the wire to an existing fence or stand it up as a garden trellis, order them unframed.

Silver Cattle Panels vs. Farm-Store Cattle Panels

Farm-store cattle panels usually come in one size, about 50" tall and 16' long, with large openings, and you cut and fasten them yourself. These are cut to standard fence sizes from 32" to 8' tall in 6' or 8' widths, with a tighter, even grid in four mesh sizes, and you can have them delivered framed and ready to install.

Gates and Posts for a Silver Cattle Panel Fence

Posts are sold separately. A straight run needs one more post than it has panels, plus one post for each gate opening. Set the line with wood fence posts or metal fence posts, and finish the opening with matching cattle panel gates in silver.

Want a darker fence? The same panel comes in black and brown, or compare every option in our cattle panels collection. For garden ideas, see 10 cattle panel trellis ideas.

📐 Custom Sizing

Most projects fit the sizes listed on this page — those are what we build, stock and price online.

We do make custom sizes within our standard range, and we quote them case by case. If your run falls between two listed sizes — say you need 7′ 6″ when we list 7′ and 8′ — we can build it. The cost depends on the dimensions, the profile and how much material the cut leaves behind, so custom sizes are not listed or priced on the site. Send us the measurements and we will tell you what is possible and what it costs.

Custom sizes are final sale. A panel cut to your dimensions cannot be restocked or sold to anyone else, so custom-sized orders cannot be returned or exchanged. Please confirm your measurements before you approve the quote.

These products can all be modified on site. Trimming a panel to close out a run is normal work, and you do not need us to do it for you — ask and we will walk you through how to cut and seal it properly so the finish holds up.

Just know that a cut edge is no longer a factory edge: cutting or drilling exposes unprotected steel and voids the steel & coating warranty on that component. Done the right way and sealed properly it will still last — so ask us before you cut.

🏅 Warranty
Steel and wire: 40-year warranty on the wire and finish. Each panel is hot-dipped and heavy galvanized, and the zinc is the finish, with no dip-coat or paint on top.

Treated lumber (framed options): Kiln-dried, copper-azole pressure-treated lumber with a lifetime limited warranty against structural failure from fungal decay or termite damage, in ground-contact and above-ground retention classes, when installed to applicable building codes. Field cuts must be sealed with two coats of a copper-based end-cut preservative (minimum 1% copper) to keep coverage.

Western Red Cedar (framed options): Kiln-dried and naturally decay- and insect-resistant, with a 10-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects and premature structural decay.

Factory assembly (framed options): 5-year limited workmanship warranty.

Care: Cedar and pressure-treated frames don't need stain to resist rot. Left unfinished, both weather naturally to a soft silver gray. To keep the original color and reduce surface checking, apply an oil-based penetrating stain every few years.

Installation: Proper installation is the installer's responsibility, including the correct concrete mix, post-hole diameter and depth for your soil and frost line, and panels set square, plumb and level. Damage or premature wear from improper installation is not covered.

Modifications: Cutting, drilling or altering the steel exposes unprotected edges and voids the steel and coating warranty on the modified component.

Natural weathering, checking and minor warping of wood are normal characteristics, not defects.

❓ FAQ

Are these the same as the cattle panels sold at farm stores?
No. Farm-store cattle panels usually come in one size, about 50" tall and 16' long, with large openings, and you cut and fasten them yourself. These are 6-gauge welded panels with a tighter, even grid, cut to standard fence sizes from 32" to 8' tall in 6' or 8' widths, and you can order them framed and ready to hang.

Can I use silver cattle panels around a vegetable garden?
Yes. Galvanized panels are a common choice for garden fences and trellises. The bare zinc finish has no paint to flake into the soil, the grid keeps out rabbits and dogs, and climbing crops like peas, beans and squash grow straight up it.

Which grid size should I choose for chickens, rabbits or goats?
Use 1" x 1" for rabbits and chicks, 2" x 2" for adult chickens, ducks and small dogs, and 4" x 4" for goats, sheep and general fencing. 2" x 6" gives a longer grid if you want a lighter, more modern look.

Do I need framed or unframed cattle panels?
Framed panels come in pressure-treated lumber or Western Red Cedar and arrive ready to fasten between posts, which is the fastest way to a finished fence. Unframed panels are bare wire for your own wood frames, an existing fence, or a freestanding garden trellis.

How tall should a cattle panel garden fence be?
A 3' or 4' fence is enough to keep out rabbits, dogs and most chickens. Go 5' to 6' for goats, which climb and jump. Where deer are a problem, the 7' and 8' heights are the usual choice.

How long do galvanized cattle panels last?
A long time. The 6-gauge steel is hot-dipped and heavy galvanized, which coats every wire and weld in a thick layer of zinc. The bright finish weathers to a soft gray patina that keeps protecting the steel, and the wire is covered by a 40-year warranty against rust and corrosion.

How many posts do I need?
Posts are sold separately. A straight run needs one more post than it has panels, and each gate opening needs one more. Choose wood fence posts for a framed farm fence or metal fence posts for posts that won't rot.

Are there matching gates?
Yes. Our cattle panel gates come in silver, in 4' walk and 12' double swing widths, built from the same 6-gauge panel.

What warranty comes with the panels?
The wire carries a 40-year warranty against rust and corrosion. Framed panels add the frame warranty: a lifetime limited warranty for pressure-treated lumber and 10 years for Western Red Cedar, plus a 5-year limited workmanship warranty on factory assembly.

How are the panels delivered?
We deliver on our own trucks and unload on your property, with no freight terminal and no third-party carrier. Your rate and estimated delivery date show in the estimate box on this page.
