Most-Ordered Panel Sizing
Our 5’ x 8’ unframed panel with 4” x 4” mesh is the most-ordered size — over 69 panels shipped last month alone. It’s the go-to for residential privacy fences, design-forward garden enclosures, deck railing, and pool fences where the welded-wire-panel aesthetic matters but the agricultural-grade product wouldn’t meet the visual or durability standard.
If you’re shopping for a working cattle pen on a farm, agricultural-grade cattle panels from Tractor Supply or your local farm supply (raw galvanized, 16-foot panels, $20–40 range) are typically the right call — cheaper, sufficient for the application. BarrierBoss panels are built for residential and commercial use where finish, durability, and color options matter: 6-gauge welded steel, hot-dipped galvanized + dip-coated finish, 40-year warranty, available in black, brown, and galvanized.
For dedicated cattle panel sizing — including 6’ x 8’ and 8’ x 8’ options with 1” x 1” mesh — see our Cattle Panel collection.
Frame Options
Unframed — raw welded mesh panels. Build your own frame or use our hog panel track system.
Pressure Treated Frame — ready to install. Pre-built PT wood frame with mesh attached. Just set your posts and hang.
Western Red Cedar Frame — premium natural wood frame. Naturally rot-resistant. Beautiful natural grain.
Finishes
Black (most popular) — dip-coated matte black. Blends with any landscape.
Silver / Galvanized — classic industrial look. Hot-dipped galvanized for maximum corrosion resistance.
Brown / Coffee — warm earth tone. Works with wood and natural settings.
Why 6-Gauge Steel?
Our panels use 6-gauge (4.9mm) wire — the thickest available in residential hog wire. Competitors typically use 9-gauge (3.4mm) or thinner. That extra thickness is why these work as heavy-duty utility fence panels rather than light wired fence — and every panel carries a 40-year warranty against rust, fade and corrosion.

Hog Fence Panels, Hog Wire Panels and Hogwire Fencing
The same product answers to several names. Hog fence panels, hog wire panels, hogwire fence and hog panel fencing all describe welded steel grid sold as a rigid panel rather than a roll. Whichever term you arrived with, this is it.
What separates hog wire from ordinary wire is the welding. Every intersection is fused, so the panel holds its shape between posts instead of sagging. That is why a pig fence built from panels stays where you put it, and why the same panels end up around gardens, pools and decks where a rolled mesh would belly out within a season.
Why Hogwire Instead of Rolled Wire
It stays flat
Rolled metal wire fence has to be strained tight and re-tensioned as it relaxes. A welded panel arrives rigid and needs no tensioning at all — the stiffness is in the weld pattern.
It takes a push
Stock lean, root and rub against a fence. Heavy duty fence panels in welded steel absorb that where a light mesh deforms and stays deformed.
It nearly disappears
At any distance the grid reads as a line rather than a barrier, which is why hog fencing has moved from the farm to the front yard. You keep the view and still have a real fence.
Choosing Hog Wire Panels
Two decisions matter. The mesh opening sets what the fence contains — wider openings look lighter and cover a run for less, tighter openings hold smaller animals and stop a child or a dog finding a way through. Panel size sets how many posts you dig, since a wider panel spans further for the same run.

❓ FAQ
What makes BarrierBoss hog wire heavier than big-box panels? The welded mesh is 6-gauge (4.9 mm) wire — noticeably thicker than the 8–10-gauge panels sold at most home centers. It is dip-coated steel, not powder-coated, so the coating bonds into the welds where rust normally starts.
What colors and mesh sizes are available? Dip-coated finishes in black, brown and silver. Mesh openings come in 2"×2" and 4"×4". Panels are sold framed (ready to mount) or unframed (loose infill for your own frame).
Framed or unframed hog wire — which do I need? Unframed panels are the lowest-cost infill when you are building your own wood or metal frame. Framed panels arrive in a welded steel frame ready to hang between posts. Both use the same 6-gauge dip-coated mesh and the 40-year steel warranty.
How fast do hog wire panels ship? Every hog wire order ships on one lane — BARRIERBOSS Residential Flat Rate Delivery — in about 2–6 weeks, delivered and unloaded on your property by our own crew, not dropped at an LTL freight terminal. We manufacture in-house; we deliver to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma.
Is hog wire fence good for dogs, livestock or deck railing? Yes — the rigid 6-gauge welded grid holds its shape against animals and impact without sagging like field fence. The same panels are used for dog runs, garden and livestock enclosures, and in code-height sizes as modern deck-railing infill.
How long do hog wire fence panels last? Our 6-gauge hot-dipped galvanized panels last 40+ years. The dip-coating process provides superior corrosion protection compared to spray-on coatings. With a pressure treated or cedar frame, the entire panel assembly is built for decades of outdoor exposure.
What size hog wire panel do I need? For privacy fencing, 6'x8' or 5'x8' panels are most popular. For deck railing, 3'x6' or 3'x8' panels fit standard railing heights. For garden borders, 3'x8' or 4'x8' panels work well. Measure your post spacing — panels should fit between posts with 1/4" clearance on each side.
What’s the difference between BarrierBoss hog wire panels and traditional agricultural cattle panels? Traditional agricultural cattle panels — the kind sold at Tractor Supply, farm supply stores, or Home Depot — are typically 16-foot raw galvanized welded steel panels designed for livestock containment in working farms. They’re priced around $20–40 per panel and they’re suited to that purpose. BarrierBoss hog wire panels (also called cattle panels in our catalog) are the residential and commercial-grade equivalent: 6-gauge welded steel with hot-dipped galvanized base and dip-coated finish (rust-resistant for 40+ years), available in multiple sizes (3×6 through 8×8), multiple mesh options (1×1, 2×2, 4×4), and multiple finishes (black, brown, galvanized). They’re built for fences, deck railings, garden borders, and design-forward applications where the agricultural-grade product wouldn’t meet the visual or durability standard. If you’re building a working cattle pen, the farm supply option is likely sufficient. If you’re building a residential or commercial fence where finish and durability matter, BarrierBoss panels are built for that use.
Can I use hog wire panels for deck railing? Yes — hog wire deck railing is one of the most popular uses. Use 3'x6' or 3'x8' panels with 4"x4" mesh for an open, modern look. Our pre-framed panels drop into standard deck railing posts. Check your local building code for mesh opening requirements — most jurisdictions allow 4"x4" mesh for deck railing infill.
Do you ship hog wire panels? We run our own trucks, so we deliver only where our own routes reach: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. Panels ship flat on pallets and are unloaded on your property by our crew, usually in about 2–6 weeks. Other states are not served yet — we add them as new hubs open.
Framed vs unframed — which should I choose? Choose framed if you want a ready-to-install solution — just set posts and hang panels. Choose unframed if you're building a custom frame, using our hog panel track system, or need to cut panels to non-standard sizes. Framed panels save 2-3 hours of labor per panel.
Are BarrierBoss hog wire panels suitable for livestock containment? Yes — many of our customers use them for residential horse fencing, hobby farm goat or sheep enclosures, and small-acreage chicken runs. The 4×4 mesh with 6-gauge welded steel provides reliable containment for most livestock while looking finished enough for residential properties. For large-scale working farms with cattle, sheep, or hogs at production scale, you may find agricultural-grade cattle panels from a farm supply store more cost-effective for the application — they’re built for utility, not aesthetics. BarrierBoss panels are the right call when you need both containment and a residential-finish appearance.

We ordered three Fort Knox panels for a privacy wall. They were easy to move, easy to build before moving them into place. Once build they look fantastic, very solid and easily installed as they measured exactly 8' wide and 6' tall once built. We used 10' 4"X4" post so we could add a little more height then trimmed the post and added post caps.
We'd like to give a special shout out to the Barrier Boss Customer Service team for being so responsive as I was getting anxious to take delivery and get them installed before my hip replacement. They said delivery would be 6-8 weeks, they delivery in about 6 weeks so I had the post in the ground and ready. Following the video instruction the install was simple, taking about two hours to build and install - amazing. We highly recommend working with BarrierBoss and being patient as the wait time is well worth it. We love this product, it looks amazing, we will be back for more fencing in the future. Thanks BarrierBoss for making the best fencing available in the market today.

Good stuff! Worked exactly for what we needed, and looks fantastic. I can't believe I couldn't find this stuff closer to home (Alberta) but it is what it is, delivery was easy anyways so thanks for that.

So impressive, I thought it was a scam
I ordered several framed and finished hog wire panels as part of a deer fence project. I thought the cost was very reasonable... Due to tariffs, etc. they took a quite while to come, and I started to get paranoid I'd been scammed by a fake website (it is pretty impressive)! Thanks to CS for sending that video, very reassuring...Once the product was delivered I was completely impressed. Delivery was professional and at a reasonable cost...., The quality is amazing... My fence installer wanted to know-- who made these?!!

A Hog Wire Fence Ready for a New Grandchild, Carmel Valley CA
Bob C. ordered BarrierBoss black hog wire panels unframed, then built every frame and gate himself around his hillside garden and courtyard under the oaks. Here’s how it turned out.
A Boise homeowner swapped a tired white plastic deck railing for a custom wood-and-black-hog-wire one, built by hand with a friend. See the before, the after, and why hog wire beat cable.
A Bay Area homeowner wanted a front-yard fence that would safely enclose the yard for their dog, give them a calm place to relax, and still be the best-looking fence on the block. Licensed contractor Cut Once Construction built it around BarrierBoss silver hog wire panels in a custom Western Red Cedar frame.
