Colorado’s Front Range is one of the fastest-growing residential markets in the country — and one of the highest-risk wildfire zones in the West. From the suburban boom of Douglas County and Castle Rock to the mountain modern homes of Boulder and the foothills west of Denver, property owners are choosing hog wire fence panels for a combination of fire resistance, mountain-modern aesthetics, and zero-maintenance durability. BarrierBoss manufactures and ships 6-gauge hog wire fence panels direct to Colorado homeowners and contractors.
Why Hog Wire Fencing Works for Colorado
Colorado’s climate is demanding. Intense UV at altitude fades and degrades wood quickly. Dry winters and wind events stress fence structures. Wet springs stress frames and hardware. And across the I-25 corridor and into the foothills, wildfire risk is a real and present concern for hundreds of thousands of homeowners. Hog wire fence panels address all of these conditions: 6-gauge galvanized steel wire that resists UV, does not rot, and will not ignite — set inside KDBT or cedar frames, or all-metal frames for fire-prone zones.
Wildfire-Resistant Fencing for Colorado’s Front Range
Colorado has seen some of the most destructive wildfires in U.S. history in recent years — the Marshall Fire, the East Troublesome Fire, and the Cameron Peak Fire all affected densely populated Front Range communities. Fencing that reduces ember-catchment surface area and eliminates wood fuel load is no longer a luxury in these areas — it is a practical safety measure.
Our FireSafe Hog Wire Fence Kit uses 6-gauge rigid wire panels with all-metal posts and hardware — no wood in the structural system. It is the right choice for homeowners in Jefferson County, Larimer County, Boulder County, and any other Front Range community with elevated fire risk. See our guide on hog wire fencing for fire-prone areas.
Mountain Modern Aesthetic for Colorado Homes
- Denver and Suburbs: Black dip-coated hog wire on cedar or KDBT frames — the mountain modern look that complements Colorado’s residential architecture from Highlands Ranch to Arvada.
- Boulder and Foothills Communities: Open wire panels that frame mountain views instead of blocking them, with frames that handle the temperature swings and UV intensity of a high-altitude climate.
- Fort Collins and Northern Colorado: Fast-growing suburban communities with large-lot properties where hog wire covers distance economically without sacrificing style.
- Mountain Properties: Panels rated for snow load and high-wind events in higher-elevation properties near Evergreen, Conifer, and the ski resort communities.

What Changed in 2026: Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code
On July 1, 2025, Colorado adopted the Wildfire Resiliency Code (WRC), based on the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code 2024 (IWUIC 2024). Local jurisdictions must adopt the code by April 1, 2026, with full implementation beginning July 1, 2026. Boulder County and Broomfield are already live.
The 8-Foot Non-Combustible Fence Rule
Under the WRC, all new fence and gate sections built within 8 feet of a structure must be constructed with non-combustible materials — a requirement that exceeds even California's Zone 0 (5 feet). Approved materials include steel, aluminum, and masonry. Wood is prohibited within the 8-foot zone in WUI areas. The level of structure hardening, defensible space, and other mitigation measures depends on your parcel's Fire Intensity classification (Low, Moderate, or High).
Insurance Discounts Coming July 2026
Colorado's HB-1182 insurance transparency law takes effect July 2026. Insurance companies will be required to disclose wildfire risk models, share exact wildfire risk scores, and include mitigation efforts in rate calculations — meaning installing fire-resistant fencing can directly lower your homeowners insurance premium.
BarrierBoss FireSafe Kits Meet WRC Standards
Our Metal Privacy Fence Kit and Hog Wire Fence Kit are 100% steel and fully compliant with the Colorado WRC. Installed at any distance from a structure, they meet IWUIC 2024 standards and qualify for HB-1182 mitigation credits when filing for insurance rate adjustments.

Premade Hog Fence Panel Projects
How To Install Hog Wire Fence Panels
A hogwire fencing system is affordable and easy to install: a hog wire fence is DIY friendly.
You may find lighter gauges in continuous hog wire fence rolls. However, hog wire or welded wire mesh typically comes in rigid, pre-assembled panels of various sizes. (For example, 6 ft hog wire fence panels.) Simply attach panels to fence posts and rails, and presto... wild hog panel fence DIY!
The benefit of premade hog wire fence panels is twofold: you save time and limit mistakes! This fence product's ease of maintenance saves costs too.
A Few Pro Tips:
If installing a gate, follow the same process as for the posts, ensuring the gate posts are sturdy and well-aligned. Attach gate hinges to one gate post, hang the gate, and ensure it swings freely and closes securely. Install hardware like latches.
All the best as you install a secure and functional hog wire fence with a gate. We hope these ideas will result in a design you can go hogwild over!
Versatile Hog Fencing Applications
Properties that have installed hog fence panels will enjoy their long lifespan. Heavy-gauge welded wire panels with a galvanized zinc finish are durable and resistant to weather and animal impact. This is particularly beneficial in areas prone to strong winds or heavy snowfall.
Some metal fence designs will incorporate hog wire fence with metal posts. If the wood is treated and installed well, a wood and hog wire fence will go the distance too. Our 6 ft hog wire fence panels are easy to work with.
The open grid design allows for clear visibility. This is beneficial for monitoring livestock or property. It provides an unobstructed, uncluttered view of your outdoor space.
What are Designer Hog Wire Fence Panels?
Hog wire is a heavy-duty alternative to chain link fencing. Made of dip-coated galvanized steel, this kind of fence keeps out unwanted animals. (Annually, wild hogs and deer cause over $2.5 billion in property damage.) Over time, other reasons have made this kind of fencing popular. Hog wire fencing has numerous advantages and is extremely versatile. Use it to contain livestock, secure gardens, create plant trellises, or serve as a decorative element. It has appropriate functions in both rural and urban areas.
