Is the gate made from the same wire as the cattle panels?
Yes. Each gate is built from the same 6-gauge welded cattle panel as our fence panels, hot-dipped and heavy galvanized, not a lighter gate-grade mesh. The grid carries straight through the opening, so the gate looks like part of the fence.
Should I get a walk gate or a double swing gate?
A 4' walk gate is for getting into pens, runs and gardens on foot or with a wheelbarrow. A 12' double swing gate opens wide enough to move stock, tractors, trucks and trailers through a pasture or driveway. Both come in 4', 5', 6', 7' and 8' heights to match your fence.
Will the gate match my cattle panel fence?
Yes. Gates come in the same black, brown and silver finishes as our cattle panels. When you order gates and panels together, we build the gate in the same grid you chose for the fence: 4" x 4", 2" x 2", 1" x 1" or 2" x 6". Ordering a gate on its own or want a different grid? Add it to the order notes.
Which frame is best for a working farm gate?
Pressure-treated lumber is the practical choice for gates that see daily use, with a lifetime limited warranty against decay and termites. Western Red Cedar has a richer look for gates near the house and carries a 10-year limited warranty. The full metal frame has no wood at all, so there's nothing to rot, and it matches the all-steel cattle panel fence kit.
Does the gate come assembled?
Yes. Each gate is assembled and squared at our shop, so it arrives ready to hang. That's the part of a gate that's hardest to get right on site, especially with a wide double swing.
Is the gate hardware included?
No, hinges and latches are sold separately so you can set up each opening the way you need. The Universal Black Gate Hardware Kit includes black dip-coated hinges, a latch and brackets.
What posts do I need to hang the gate?
Posts are sold separately. Hang each gate between two solid posts set in concrete below your frost line, because animals pushing on a gate put more load on its posts than on any fence panel. Metal fence posts give the firmest hold, and wood fence posts suit a wood-framed fence.
How do I keep a farm gate from sagging?
Most sag comes from the posts, not the gate. Use solid posts set in concrete, keep them plumb, and hang the gate with heavy-duty hinges. Because these gates arrive squared in a rigid frame, they keep their shape once they're hung correctly.
Can I order a custom gate size?
Yes. We build custom sizes within our standard range of 4' to 8' high and up to 12' wide, and quote them case by case. Custom sizes are final sale, so double-check your opening before you order.
How is the gate delivered?
We deliver on our own trucks and unload on your property, with no freight terminal and no third-party carrier. Your rate and estimated delivery date show in the estimate box on this page.
